Planning and Intentions
Ohana means 'family' in Hawiian. Family doesn't always have to be blood based, well in my opnion anyway. I have very little family near me so I like to make the most of having friends, as I see them as a blessing that I've managed to make any. So that was always my aim with the idea, to create a piece whuch represented some part of my family, weather that being blood relations to my friends. I love photogrpahy like Bob gruen's that captures people reactions and also the photography from Night Club's. As I think they are the best representation of people letting go. They capture another aspect of human nature and actions. In this case I have used 'The Wharehouse' photogrpahy from their nights as my example and insparation if you can call it that. As personally obviously being my age i can't legally go, as well my friend's ID whos I use lives there, so they may clock that it's not actully me. But one of my closet friends always tells me stories from there and the weird and wonderful characters you get there. And when she tells the tales, she uses photo's to paint the picture better for my imagination. And I always liked this idea.
So as she was the inspration from her bedtime stories from this Nightclub in particular, I thought that an evening at her house would be the best place for it. As she has extremley transferble personailty, that can convey really well through imagery. As well as our friends who were attending that evening.
I will make my work similar by following techiniques and aspects used by the photographer. So forced flash lighting, focus on the subjects reactions in the moment and to have vibrant images. That bring life and atmosphere into a 2D representative of someone's behaviour in a particular moment.
The piece is about documenting a group of friends and their sponatious reactions to seeing a camera, some look over-joyed. Some slightly stunned like a rabit in head-lights and other conveing an emtion that can only be described as 'hmmm'. There isn't exactly a solid meaning or message behind the photo as the purpose of this photgraphy isn't always to determine meaning and messages. But in my interpretation is sends the message of solidarity and personalities within friendships and humans.
Statement of Intent
The photographs used will be of friends and there actions in a social situation. This project I intened to document a evening at Shona's house. It will capture reactions and behaviours of young adults and teenagers in a certain enviornment and how they react in social situations.
The following equitment will be used;
-A Canon 600d DSLR
-Forced Flash from the camera
-People
I will capture the photos at my friend's house. In Goosnargh.
The story I plan to tell, is overall what I stated in the above. As well as how people can let go, when they're around certain positive influences. And the spontaneous reactions from people when for an example they see a camera, or are un-aware of the camera's presense.
I plan to do this by, bringing the camera into the equasion later in the night, at different stages. When people are more relaxed, energetic, 'sassy' etc. When there charasim alters with their persona. And at the times they do inate behaviours and actions.
