Shoot Two

Shoot One

Shoot One and two were both captured on the same night, on Saturday May 30th during the half term. As planned the shoot was at Shona's house. I made sure I purposley left a time period in between to ascess the photos I had taken from shoot one, to seeing developments/ improvemnts I could make during shoot two. I had to use the time gap as the photos were all to be shot on the same night, but obviously I needed a shoot One and Two.

One of the first photos to be picked out as a sucessful image is IMG_2130. It uses forced flash, and captures a geuinie moment. The postioning of the camera brings concentration from the viewer to the right third of the image, As well as the flash emphasing where our eyes should look with the image.  It also channels the idea of 'Ohana' as it is infering closeness and physical gestures between two people to show Ohana.

IMG_2136 relates to the more spontaneous and 'photo's you rather not see of yourself' aspect of my Ohana project. As the subjects tights are ripped and they're not in the most 'elegant' postion but still remain the form of dignity, as teenagers in the circle of friends do. I also like how Shona has acknolwged the photo being taken, but far too late to pose or plan a reaction. Again like IMG_2130 the ratio of the photo is in the right hand third, but in this case unlike IMG_2130, the background adds depth to the image. As Shona is climing of the table that blocks the door. Which creates an intresting perspective for the viewer as they become curious about the story behind the photo.

I had to keep up with movement of people so ater acknoladging this pretty soon into the shoot, I increased the shutter spead. As I wanted to keep the clarity ofb the photos high and for them to be crisp with sharp lines. I like the colours in Harry's top here, and how they contrast with his hair. But also the movemnt of his hair can been seen with the image, which adds intrest. In line with the photo relating to the aim of the images to capture teens 'letting go' etc, this embelashies this as the subject is comforatble and almost looks as if he is flowing.

Both images 2151 & 2152 have strenths and weakness, espcially in comparesnt. 2151 captures moevement etc and is lighter in aperture in comparesent to 2152, but they both cut off a part of a persons body. So the compesition faulters. But they follow one of my ideas in my mind map of group images. As and improvemnt in my second shoot I need to consider my compestion more and how that will effect the over all out come of the image, as is can look almost sloppy. But then again it could link with how teenagers are, they're not always pristine and perfect.

I purposley choose IMG_2157 to highlight issues and improvements to consider in my second shoot. The image is un-focused meaning I hadn't prepared the camera properly, or the flash over powered the camera lens when it was slightly out of foucs making the quailty of the image worse. As well the aperature is too high as the exposure brings out too much of the white highlights in the phot. Which looses the aim of vibrant and bold colours and makes them more wishy-washy.

Improvements consit of remaing manual focus through out the second shoot, control and possibley a lowering of the aperature and as well as the compensition as the subjects are cut out of the image and the focus is lost. It looks like a bad house photo shoot.

Taking into consideration the issues I raised in shoot one, I kept these in mind and lowere the aperature espcially. As can be seen in IMG_2171. The image is a close mid shot, where the facial reaction and expressions can be clearly seen, but it isn't a close up. The background is dark and empashsis Shona even more which I like. The colours are loud and follow the photography style of the Wharehouse potographer. An issue though with the photo was the subject after over seeing the photo's didn't feel comforatble with this photo making the final cut. As i have to take consideration of the people in the photos give consent to photos, this is why the photo was included.

IMG_2177 is an example of the poorer quality shots. The photo is in focus, but the lighting is off on Shona's hair and it almost looks as if there is too much exposure. As well there is too much light being drawn to the background to the right of the subject. The bottle's reflect too much lights and this ditracts from the point of the image. but as the images move on you can see improvements have been made.

The first shot of this angle from behind Shona was the most succsesful. It projects the vibrant colours and te harshness of the flash. Whilst the lowered apperature creates a darker background palet of colours, which focus the light on Shonas. I really like this image as it links to my ideas and plans, of the idea of losing enhabitions and the capturing of movement.

Another of my favourites is IMG_2202. It represents another part to the idea of 'Ohana'. And expresses and captures peoples reactions and relationship between eachother. But also contends with the social situation side of Ohana, that you dont have to be blood related to be family. Or as close as, as Harry and Hannah are. I like how the mistake of having the washing hanging up in the right hand corner of the frame is there. It makes it look more real and how a house usally does look, it isn't going to always be pristine like in staged photo shoots. Also the colour of the shirts add more vibrance.

IMG_2203 Was one of the only images not to use forced flash. The fluroescent light from the fridge worked effectlivley, by making the picture almot glow. It doesn't exaclty fit the theme/style of the project but food is what keeps us teenagers alive, so I took a picture. The picture is offcenre and at a slight awkard angle when it comes to composition. but I do like the difference between the shados and the fluroscent lighting from the fridge. I had to turn my shutter speed up to make sure there was less chance of blur/noise.

Another image takenw without flash, not by me but by Pat. This just demonstates with low shutter speed and tugesent lighting that a image has a lesser chance of being clear and sharp without these contributes.
